STONE COATED GLAMOUR

Why choose Stone-Coated Metal Tile Roofing?

More people are switching from Asphalt Shingles to Stone Coated Metal Tile Roofing.  Metal Tile Roofing is not only a Class 4 Roof but also has a Class A Fire rating. These thin sheets of steel can be beautifully stone coated to look like Tuscan Clay or Roman Concrete.  We recommend DECRA Villa or DECRA Tile as solid options in stone coated metal tile roofing.

What is the installation process of metal tile roofing?

Most Tile Roofing is installed the same way you would an asphalt shingle except with the addition of a batten system and a heavier underlayment.

Your existing roof will be stripped down to the wood decking, which will then be thoroughly inspected for any signs of water damage. We will install a layer of waterproof synthetic underlayment directly on top of the wood decking. This layer is crucial as it serves as the vapor barrier, safeguarding the wood decking below. Next, we will begin assembling the various components of the roof, including Ice & Water Shield if your area requires it. Special flashing, required by this type of tile roofing system, will be placed in the valleys and vertical corners, ensuring that transitions to walls or chimneys are well protected.  Over the synthetic underlayment we attach battens which allow the tiles something to fasten to without penetrating the roof’s surface. Finally the metal tiles are attached to the battens and are placed from the edges of the roof up to the peak line, creating an overlapping pattern. Depending on the type of tile roof you have selected, we may also attach bird stops and end caps at the edges of roof that allow for water run-off but also stop critters from burrowing under the roof edges.  This completes the entire tile roofing system, with of course, the addition of roofing ventilation.

How is it made?

Your stone coated metal tile roof starts as a thin sheet of cold-rolled steel. It is shaped by machinery (like hydraulic presses) and cut into manageable tiles.  The tiles are covered with several layers of coatings that protect them from sun damage, rusting and corrosion.  The next coating is a sticky acrylic that is used to bond the stone granules to the metal.  These granules are selected by color and texture to coat the steel in beautiful patterns.  Finally the piece is baked to allow the adhesives to harden.  Sun protective coatings are applied as the last finishing touch to complete the tile manufacturing.

This metal tile roof is an excellent choice to protect your home from the challenges of Colorado weather.  This lightweight steel holds up under most hail storms (except for extreme cases) and will protect your home for years to come.
